Ray Stafford

Ray Stafford was born December 2, 1938 on Roaring River in Jackson County, TN to the late Henderson and Lucenda Haney Stafford. He passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 29, 2025 at his home in the Poston Ridge Community of Jackson County, TN at the age of 86.

Ray was a member of the McCoinsville Church of Christ. He was a lifelong mechanic and a renowned musician. He enjoyed creating and displaying Christmas lights and decorations each season and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Bunie Flatt Stafford; his sons Gary Ray (Margie) Stafford of Gainesboro, TN, and Jackie (Jeff Duffer) Stafford of Nashville, TN. Grandson Jacob (Grace) Stafford; granddaughters Samantha (Derek) Brown; Holly (Alex) Hillis. Great-granddaughter Sadie Brown; Great-grandson Weston Ray Brown; and Great-grandson Max Hillis, all of Gainesboro.

In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his siblings Clifford Stafford, Nannie Bell Mayberry, Mattie May Stafford, Fred Stafford, Brinie Jewell Hammock, James H. Stafford, Eugene Stafford, Ona Elizabeth Hix, and Roger Stafford.

Visitation with the family is Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM, and from 10:00 AM until service time on Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2025 in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. James Bybee and Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pharris Cemetery in Jackson County, TN.

Pallbearers will be Derek Brown, Jacob Stafford, Alex Hillis, Ethan Ayers, Larry Stafford and Jared Herron.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Weston Ray Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pharris Cemetery or the Tannehill Lodge Children’s Christmas Fund.
