William Richard West, known affectionately as Bill, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at CRMC in Cookeville, TN, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 26, 1950, in Jackson County, TN, Bill's life was characterized by a deep sense of patriotism, a strong work ethic, and an immeasurable love for his family and friends. Bill was 75 years old.
Bill was the son of William Willis West and Lucy Elise Young West. Bill served his country in Vietnam with honor as a member of the Army's 101st Airborne Division. His time in the service instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that would stay with him throughout his life.
After serving his country, Bill returned to Illinois to embark on a successful career where he built multiple businesses. His hardwork and determination combined with his honest approach to his work ensured that he left a lasting impact on every project he undertook.
An avid golfer, Bill could often be found on the greens, enjoying time with friends, the game and the beauty of the outdoors. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him, and he shared his home with a number of cherished pets over the years.
Bill was a devoted husband to his wife of 54 years, Beverly West, and a loving father to his three children, Richard (Julie) West of Lebanon, TN, Brian (Scott) West of Mokena, IL, and Breanna (Austin) Thompson of Old Hickory, TN. He cherished every moment spent with his family and instilled in his children the values of love, compassion, hard work and integrity.
He is also survived by his brother, Danny (DJ) West of Baxter, TN, who will miss the bond of brotherhood they shared. Bill's presence was a gift to all who knew him including his numerous nephews and nieces.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lester West, Mitchel West, and sister: Lisa Hanus.
In his passing, Bill leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will not soon be forgotten. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Bill's life was a testament to the virtues of kindness, dedication, and loyalty, and he will be deeply missed by all.
As we say goodbye to William Richard West, we celebrate a life well-lived, a family well-loved, and a man who truly made the world a better place. His journey on earth has ended, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, now and always.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 10 AM until 2 PM at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday March 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Kelly Stockton officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Flatt Cemetery.
